51 24 300 Removing And Installing Or Replacing Left Or Right Gas Strut For Rear Lid

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove luggage compartment wheel arch trim . See 51 47 151 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING LEFT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM or 51 47 161 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM .

Left side only:

If necessary, remove transmit-receive unit incl. holder. See 84 11 627 REMOVING AND INSTALLING (REPLACING) TRANSMIT-RECEIVE UNIT (OPTION SA630) .

WARNING: Support rear lid with suitable equipment (danger of injury).

Left side only on version with automatic rear lid actuation:

Release retainer (1) and remove hydraulic cylinder (2) from gas strut (3).

Lever out both retaining springs (1).

Lever out gas strut (2) from ball pins of side panel and rear lid hinge (3) and remove.
