51 24 ... Notes And Instructions On Automatic Rear Lid Actuation (From 02/2003) (ELECTROHYDRAULIC-Fully Automatic)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 BMW Alpina and 2007 BMW Alpina. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT:
Adhere to conditions of absolute cleanliness when working on the opened hydraulic system. Even the smallest of dirt particles in the hydraulic system can cause malfunctions.
Function description and check:
- Refer to DIS (Diagnosis and Information System).
Installation location of individual components:
Components in luggage compartment on right side:
- Rear lid module
- Hydraulic unit
- Proportional valve
- Angle transmitter, mounted on right rear lid hinge
Components in luggage compartment on left side:
- Hydraulic cylinder, mounted on left rear lid hinge
Checking fluid level in hydraulic unit:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove right luggage compartment wheel arch trim . See 51 47 161 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING RIGHT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM .
E67 only:
- Remove additional trim panel
Test requirements:
Open rear lid (motor-driven) twice and close again, this bleeds the system.
Rising air bubbles must not be visible.
Check fluid level in installed state.
Check distance (B) from middle of marking (3) to upper edge of pump carrier (1).
B = 28±1 mm
When rear lid is fully opened (cylinder retracted), fluid level (2) must be in area (A) of marking (3).
NOTE:
Fluid fill quantity (lines filled with fluid and cylinder retracted):
- Top edge of marked cross = 100 ml
- Bottom edge of marked cross = 80 ml
Correcting fluid level in hydraulic unit:
Operation is described in:
- Correct fluid level in hydraulic unit for rear lid actuation (electrohydraulic-fully automatic). See 51 24 660 CORRECTING FLUID LEVEL IN HYDRAULIC UNIT FOR REAR LID ACTUATION (ELECTROHYDRAULIC-FULLY AUTOMATIC) .
