51 13 282 Replacing Trim Strip On Roof Frame At Left Or Right

Special tools required: 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Lever out retainers (1 to 4) from trim strip (6).

A Direction of travel, front

5 Seal

Lever out black retainer (1) from trim strip (6).

Installation: 

Clip black retainer (1) into bore on trim strip (6).

Lever out retainers (1 to 3) from trim strip (6).

Installation: 

Clip black retainers (1) into bores on trim strip (6).

A Direction of travel, front

2 Black retainers

3 White retainers (E65), black retainers (E66)

Rubber on retainers (2 and 3) must not be damaged or missing.

For position of retainers (2 and 3), refer to next step.

Installation: 

Attach retainers (2 and 3) at distance (B) from hole (7).

A Direction of travel, front

B = 25 mm

Bore (7) for white retainers (3) is approx. 715 mm further back.

Lever out white retainer (4) from trim strip (6).

Installation: 

Clip white retainer (4) into bore on trim strip (6).

All retainers must be removed in order for seal (5) to be removed.

Glue molded part of seal (5) to trim strip (6) with Loctite 454 (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Coat remainder of sealing channel of seal (7) with antiseize agent (50 % water / 50 % washing-up liquid).

Fit seal (7) and press into end position with special tool 00 9 321  (fishbone).

Fit seal (8) without antiseize agent in compressed state.

Installation: 

New seals (7 and 8) are longer than trim strip (6).

After installation, compress seals (7 and 8) slightly.

Cut seals (7 and 8) to length at ends to trim strip (6).
