17 22 010 Removing And Installing/Replacing Heat EXCHANGER For Automatic Transmission (BMW ALPINA B7)

WARNING: Danger of scalding!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.

IMPORTANT: Wear protective gloves and goggles.

Recycling

Catch and dispose of escaping transmission fluid.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove design cover . See REMOVING DESIGN COVER (BMW ALPINA B7) .
Remove underbody protection . See 51 47 490 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .

Special tools required:

17 0 030

Release screw.

Unlock hydraulic lines (1) with special tool 17 0 030 and detach.

Installation:

Connect hydraulic line (1) with TOP marking to upper pipe of heat exchanger.
Moisten pipes with a thin coating of transmission fluid.
Couplings must be heard and felt to snap into place.

Illustrations show E65/N62:

Unfasten screws.

Remove front panel (1).

The procedure is identical for the right filter side.

Unfasten screws.

Remove heat exchanger (1) together with cover (2).

NOTE: For purposes of clarity, the following work steps are shown on the heat exchanger after it has been removed.

Release screw.

Remove hydraulic lines (1) from heat exchanger.

Installation:

Tightening torque: 21 Nm.
Replace sealing rings.

Unlock and remove retainers.

Remove cover (1) from heat exchanger.

Installation:

Pay attention to spacer buffers during installation.

(Illustration shows right side. Left spacer buffer is located at top left on A/C system condenser)
