11 12 006 Removing and Installing/Sealing Right Cylinder Head Cover (N73)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove design cover.
• Remove acoustic cover.
• Remove center of assembly partition wall. See 51 71 085 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CENTER OF ASSEMBLY COMPARTMENT BULKHEAD
• Remove cover and seal.
• Remove upper section of intake filter housing and intake hose on left and right. See 13 71 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT (OR RIGHT) INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (N73)
• Remove intake air manifold. See 11 61 050 Removing and Installing Intake Air Manifold (N73) 
• Release engine wiring harness partially.
• Disconnect ignition wiring harness plug connections.
• Remove rod-type ignition coils. See 12 13 512 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ALL ROD-TYPE IGNITION COILS (N73)

Detach high-pressure lines (1) at mounting points (2).

On high-pressure pump: 

Detach feed line (3).

Detach high-pressure line (4).

Detach leakage line (5).

On rail strip:

Detach high-pressure lines (6).

Remove servomotor for right eccentric shaft. See 11 37 022 Removing and Installing/Replacing Servomotor For Left And Right Eccentric Shaft (N73) 

Release screws (1). Remove high-pressure pump (2).

Release screws (3). Remove spacer (4).

Release screws (1).

Disconnect plug connection from secondary air valve (2)

• air connection

and remove towards top.

Installation: 

Replace seal for secondary air valve (2).

Disconnect plug connections on sensors (1).

Release screws on flange (2) and remove.

Release screws in area (3).

Remove cylinder head cover (4).

Installation: 

Replace valve cover gasket.

Replace sealing elements for screw connection (3).

Insert screw connection (3) without pretension.

Tighten down screw connection (3) in diagonal sequence from inside to outside.

Installation: 

Replace spark plug domes.

Coat rubber seals on spark plug dome with sealing compound.

When fitting cylinder head cover: Align spark plug domes to cylinder head cover.

Replace sealing ring (1).

Installation: 

Press sealing ring (1) into cylinder head cover until flush.

Note installation direction of sealing ring (1).

Groove in sealing ring (1) points outwards.

Installation: 

Clean seal residue from sealing surfaces.

Apply a thin and even coat of Drei Bond liquid sealant (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) in area (1):

• at partition levels
• at half-moon section

Replace cylinder head cover gasket.

Ensure that seals are correctly seated.

• Side. 
• Rear side of cylinder head.

Assemble engine.
