41 11 028 Replacing Left Engine Carrier (Partial Replacement Before Front Axle)

The weight-reduced aluminum front end structure (GRAV) is used on this vehicle.
Observe specific procedure See 4100... BONDING ALUMINUM ON ALUMINUM ; 4100... RIVETING ALUMINUM PARTS ; 4100... MATERIALS SCIENCE ; 4100... EMC SCREWS ; 4100... STRAIGHTENING ALUMINUM PARTS or 4100... GRINDING ALUMINUM PARTS .
Place vehicle on straightening bench.
Following new body parts are required (refer to EPC):
- (1) Partial section, engine carrier
- (2) Repair element, top
- (3) Repair element, bottom
The engine carrier partial section is supplied with longer bolts for the E60 and E61. The bolts do not have to be shortened.
Open riveted joints in areas (1).
Open, see EMC WELD SEAM in area (1).
Installation:
Carry out, see SECTIONAL REPAIR .
- Drill through holes for, see RIVETS in areas (1).
- Use size 15 blind rivets (4 x).
Use, see 4 EMC SCREWS in areas (1).
Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with measurement a and cut engine carrier completely.
Measurement a = approx. 38 mm from center of bore.
Preparation of new part:
Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with measurement a and cut completely.
Measurement a = approx. 115 mm from front wall mounting plate.
Installation:
Adjust new part to fit with straightening attachment or universal mount.
Drill holes for rivets only after expanding repair elements.
