51 41 000 Removing and installing left or right front door trim panel
Special tools required:
- 00 9 317
Model with side airbag:
Follow safety instructions for working on cars with airbag systems. (See 51 00 ... SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING ON CARS WITH AIRBAG SYSTEMS )
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Release screw on inside door opener (See 51 21 225 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING INSIDE DOOR OPENER IN LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR )
- Release screws on inside door handle (See 51 41 019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING DOOR HANDLE ON DOOR TRIM PANEL, FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT )
Lever out airbag emblem (1) with special tool 00 9 317 and release screw underneath. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)
Tightening torque 51 41 1AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)
Unclip clips (2) of door trim with special tool 00 9 317. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)
Unclip door trim (1) at top.
Feed out door trim (1) from unlocking knob (2).
Installation:
If necessary, replace defective retaining elements.
Unhook Bowden cable (1) from door lock (2).
Depending on version: Disconnect plug-in connections (1 to 4).
Risk of damage!
Lay cable (4) correctly around screwing point (5).
Installation:
If necessary, replace faulty clips.
Clips (1) are longer than the other clips.
Make sure clips are in correct installation positions.
- Yellow clip
- White clip
Build date from 04/2006:
Switch for door mirror (2) must be secured with adhesive bead (1).
Crashpad (3) must be fitted.
Switches for door mirror (2) and crashpad (3) are secured with hot adhesive.
If necessary, retrofit crashpad (3) and secure switch (2) with hot adhesive.
Installation:
After assembling the door trim panel proceed as follows:
- Open door window.
- Lock with vehicle key.
- Check for ease-of-movement on retaining button linkage
- If necessary, align linkages
