51 32 154 Adjusting left or right front door window glass

Special tools required:

51 3 080

Requirements for correct adjustments:

Front door correctly adjusted
Car must stand on its wheels

NOTE: Observe adjustment sequence.

Longitudinal direction
Retraction depth
Pretension

Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction:

Close door and door window glass.

Door window glass (1) must touch seal (2) in area of B-pillar in accordance with measurement (A).

Measurement (A):

A= 23 ± 1 mm

NOTE: Sealing lip (1) of window cavity cover strip must not protrude over door window glass (2).

Adjusting longitudinal direction:

Remove outside door handle. (See 51 21 170 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING OUTSIDE HANDLE FROM LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR )

Slacken screw (1) in clockwise direction slightly.

Slide door window glass (2) in to desired position.

NOTE: Clamping plate (3) must not be moved in the process.

Tighten down screw (1) in counterclockwise direction.

Tightening torque 51 32 2AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

Ideal adjustment, retraction depth:

Open front door
Attach special tool 51 3 080 to door window glass (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)
Close front door and door window
Measure retraction depth; adjust if necessary

NOTE: 2 items of special tool 51 3 080 are required for rapid adjustment of retraction depths. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

Measure retraction depth (X) in areas (A to C).

Retraction depth (X):

A = 3 ± 0.5 mm (25 mm behind seal, triangular mirror section)

B = 4 ± 0.5 mm (end of glass radius)

C = 4 ± 0.5 mm (vertically over front of door handle)

IMPORTANT: Front door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip.

Adjusting retraction depth:

Open door and door window glass.

Lever out rubber plugs (1 and 2).

Adjust height via adjusting screw (3) at front and rear.

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

After adjustment at A-pillar rail:

To avoid distortion in the system, release screw (1) by a half turn in clockwise direction and tighten down again.

Tightening torque 51 32 2AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)

NOTE: Door window glass (2) and clamping plate (3) must not be displaced here.

Ideal adjustment, pretension:

Close door until lock closes in first catch.

In this door position, top edge of door window glass (1) must rest on door seal (2).

Adjusting pretension:

NOTE:

Adjustment can be carried out by way of opening for outside door handle or window guide rail.

First carry out adjustment via window guide rail.

If ideal adjustment is not yet obtained, proceed with adjustment by way of outside door handle opening.

Adjustment by way of window guide rail:

Open door and lever out rubber plug (1).

Release nut (2) and move window guide rail.

Tighten nut (2).

Tightening torque 51 33 2AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

Adjustment by way of opening for outside door handle:

Remove outside door handle. (See 51 21 170 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING OUTSIDE HANDLE FROM LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT DOOR )

Slacken screw (1) in clockwise direction.

Slide clamping plate (3) upwards or downwards.

NOTE: Screw (1) must be sufficiently slackened.

Tighten down screw (1) in counterclockwise direction.

Tightening torque 51 32 2AZ. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES article)

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

NOTE:

Reinitialize power window unit after completing adjustment work on door or door window glass.
