51 21 170 Removing and installing or replacing outside handle from left or right front door

Special tools required:

51 3 252
51 3 260

Lever out plug (1).

NOTE: Outer ring (2) remains on front door.

Engage special tool 51 3 252 at marked point in bore of locking plate (1). (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

Insert special tool 51 3 260 at marked point as far as it will go. (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

NOTE: Retaining tab (2) of locking plate (1) is raised with special tool 51 3 260 over retaining rib (3). (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

Press special tool 51 3 252 at front against stop (2). (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)

Guides (3) on outside door handle (4) are free.

Remove both special tools.

Lift out lower edge of outside handle and feed out obliquely downwards.

Installation:

Following parts on outside handle (5) must not be damaged or missing:

Seal
Guide
Rubber mount
Rubber mount

Installation:

Install outside door handle (3)
Insert special tool 51 3 252 into bore of locking plate (1) and press plate towards rear (See BODY EQUIPMENT - SPECIAL TOOLS article)
Guides (2) on outside door handle (3) are locked
Carry out operational check
