Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 BMW 645Ci and 2004 BMW 645Ci. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. On convertible, remove rear tension strut. On all models, if necessary, remove fuel tank cover.
  2. On right side in version with Dynamic Drive, unscrew nut (1). See Fig 1. Remove pressure lines from rubber mount. On all models, insert Special Tools (33 4 233) and (33 4 232) into corresponding mountings of Special Tool (00 2 040).
  3. Align Special Tool (00 2 040) to rear axle carrier. See Fig 2. If necessary, lower Special Tool (33 3 274). Support rear axle carrier by raising Special Tool (00 2 040).
  4. Remove screw (1) and bolt (2). See Fig 3. Remove tension strut sideways. Secure rear axle carrier by inserting screw (1). If necessary, lower Special Tool (00 2 040) and slide to one side.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
