Timing Chain & Upper Timing Case: Installation

1. Ensure sealing surfaces on both cylinders are clean and oil-free. Insert gaskets so sealant bead faces timing case. See Fig 1 . Check that dowel sleeves are undamaged and correctly located. Replace gaskets on both cylinder banks. See Fig 2 . Attach gasket round chain and apply thin, uniform coat of Hylomar SQ 32 M above and below attachment point. See Fig 3 .
   CAUTION: Note installation direction of gaskets.
2. Install timing case. Insert all bolts in cylinder heads and in lower timing case and fit flush. Tighten bolts under timing case. Tighten cylinder head bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . See Fig 4 . Before installing sprocket wheel for cylinders No. 7-12, sensor gear for camshaft cylinder recognition must be fitted. Install left and right sprockets to camshaft. See Figure . Align long bores, insert bolts in sprockets and install flush.
   NOTE: Sensor gear is secured in camshaft with a lug. See Fig 5 .

3. Tighten sprocket bolts on cylinders No. 7-12 and 1-6. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Insert timing chain guide rail. Insert guide rail from above and secure with retaining tab. Insert bolt and tighten. See Fig 6 -Fig 8 . Keep sealing faces clean and free of oil. Check dowel sleeves for damage and correct installation position. See Fig 9 and Fig 10 . Coat upper and lower edges of joint with Hylomar SQ 32 M.
   NOTE: When timing case cover is fitted, retaining tab is not visible.
4. Replace all gaskets. Insert all gaskets so sealant bead faces timing case cover. See Fig 11 . Install timing-chain cover. Insert bolt in oil filler plug and fit flush. Insert bolt into oil drip tray guide and fit flush. Tighten all bolts on upper timing case cover. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
