Drive Shaft: Installation

  1. Using molybendum disulfide grease, lightly lubricate centering pin on transmission output flange. Using match marks made during disassembly, position rear section of drive shaft against differential input flange and slide onto centering pin. Position center bearing to vehicle body and install mounting bolts, but do not tighten. Using NEW self-locking nuts, install rear drive shaft section to differential and tighten. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Using match marks made during disassembly, position flexible coupling of drive shaft to transmission output flange. Install NEW self-locking nuts and tighten. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Adjust center bearing preload. See CENTER BEARING PRELOAD  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  4. Tighten clamping sleeve on splined coupling. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install heat shields, reinforcement bar and oxygen sensor bracket (if equipped). Install exhaust system.
