Hydraulic Brake Booster: Notes

Before testing system, check fluid level in power steering/brake booster reservoir. With engine off, remove reservoir cover. Depress brake pedal until fluid level stops rising (approximately 20 times). Add fluid if level is lower than 1" (25 mm) from top rim of reservoir. See Figure .

Check hydraulic reservoir for label identifying type of fluid used. DO NOT mix various kinds of fluid. See HYDRAULIC FLUID FOR MODEL YEAR  .

Testing hydraulic brake booster system is done in 3 stages:

  1. Pressure test
  2. Fluid leak test
  3. Hydraulic accumulator test

Discharge hydraulic accumulator pressure by operating brake pedal at least 20 times with engine off.
