TIP:
For the most part, the removal of the sunroof frame without complaints is not required. For this pay attention to the replacement assembly contents. Refer to the Parts Information.
- The following components must be replaced after removal. Refer to OVERVIEW - SLIDING SUNROOF, A6 AVANT .
- To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position. Refer to Outer Rear/Right/Front/Left Adhesive Beads and Inner Side/Rear Side Adhesive Beads, Cutting Remove the sunroof frame. .
- Pay attention to the repair information. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .
- Required Tools and Materials for Removal and Installation. Refer to REQUIRED TOOLS AND MATERIALS FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- The vehicle and the sunroof frame must be at room temperature.
Preparing Assisting Tool
-- Create a tool from a long welding wire by bending the front end to make the smallest possible eye -arrow A-.
-- Bend the back end to avoid poking injuries -arrow B-.
Removing
-- Remove the front glass panel. Refer to FRONT GLASS PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
-- Remove the front sunroof shade. Refer to FRONT SUNROOF SHADE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
-- Remove the headliner. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the Sunroof Motor -V1-. Refer to Sunroof Motor -V1-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
-- Remove the Sunroof Shade Motor -V260-. Refer to Sunroof Shade Motor -V260-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, FRONT, A6 .
-- Remove the Sunroof Control Module -J245-. Refer to Sunroof Control Module -J245-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
-- Remove the wind deflector. Refer to WIND DEFLECTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, A6 .
TIP:
If there is difficulty cutting through the adhesive beads, heat up the sunroof frame in this area using the Wiring Harness Repair Set - Hot Air Blower :VAS 1978/14A . Protect adjacent components from the temperature effects during this and note their permitted temperatures.
Front Inner Adhesive Bead, Cutting
-- Using the tool -1-, slide the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A on the right side of the vehicle behind the inner adhesive bead between the roof and sunroof frame -arrow-.
There is a risk of damaging the wires with the cutting cord.
- Guide the cutting cord behind the wires.
-- Grab the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A behind the inner adhesive bead with the Hook Tool :T40207 and remove between the roof and the sunroof frame on the right side of the vehicle in direction of -arrow-.
-- Engage the Engine Support Bridge - Special Hook :10-222A/20 at the roof grab handle bracket on the right side.
-- Guide the left end of the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A to the right and attach it to the Engine Support Bridge - Special Hook :10-222A/20 .
-- Guide the right end of the cutting cord to the left and let it go out of the opening -arrow- in the roof frame.
- The ends of the cutting cord are now diagonal.
-- Engage the hook -1- from the Window Removal Set :VAS 861 001A into the hole on the bracket for the left roof grab handle.
-- Redirect the right end of the Cutting Cord :VAS 861 001/1A through the hook and guide it forward.
-- Secure the removal device with the reel device -2- on the inner left side of the windshield.
-- Slide the right end of the cutting cord into the reel device on the windshield.
-- Tension the cutting cord with the reel device.
-- Cut through the front inner adhesive bead.
