Fuel Delivery Unit, Removing And Installing, TFSI Vehicles: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
- Replace the seal after removal.
- Check the fuel delivery unit for a secure fit.
-- In vehicles with a parking/auxiliary heater, make sure the suction line -4- to the parking/auxiliary heater fuel extractor clicks into place in the baffle housing -1- when installed -arrow-.
-- Carefully guide the fuel delivery unit into the fuel tank.
-- Reach through the opening in the fuel tank and move the fuel delivery unit into its installation position.
- The ridge -1- on the fuel delivery unit must rest in the recess of the catch -2-.
-- Push the fuel delivery unit -4- downward until it engages audibly into the catches on the baffle housing.
-- Press the fuel delivery unit back again and then pull on it to check if the retainers -1, 2 and 3- are fastened correctly.
-- Reinstall the removed fuel delivery unit, version 1: reach in the fuel tank installation opening and connect the suction jet line -arrow- until it clicks into place. Connect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
TIP:
If the fuel delivery unit must be replaced, the version 2 is always delivered, connect it as shown.
-- Version 2: reach in the fuel tank installation opening, connect the suction jet line -arrow- until it clicks into place, and engage it. Connect the connector couplings. Refer to CONNECTOR COUPLINGS, DISCONNECTING .
-- If removed, reach in the installation opening of the fuel tank and inset and engage the fuel extraction suction line -2- for the parking/auxiliary heater in the mount on the baffle housing -arrow-.
-- Connect the connectors -1 and 3- on the bottom of the sealing flange and make sure they are secure.
-- Insert the fuel line -2- until it audibly latches to the sealing flange.
-- Install a new sealing flange seal -1-. It must be dry.
- When inserting the sealing flange, the seal must not be damaged or crushed.
-- Bring the sealing flange into its installation position.
- The tab -2- on the sealing flange must face the hole -arrow- on the mount and rest between the tabs -3 and 4- on the fuel tank.
-- Firmly press on the sealing flange, position the locking ring and tighten using the Wrench - Fuel Sending Unit:T10202 .
-- Attach the fuel lines until they engage audibly.
-- Connect the connectors and make sure they are secure.
Risk of the fuel tank exploding when starting the fuel pump.
Severe injuries and burns are possible.
- After installing a new or completely empty fuel tank, immediately fill with at least 5 liters of fuel.
-- It must be ensured that at least five liters of fuel are in the fuel tank after installing the fuel delivery unit.
-- Install the bench seat. Refer to REAR BENCH SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Connect the battery while following all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY A, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING, VEHICLES WITH HIGH-VOLTAGE SYSTEM, (0K3) .
-- Equipped on some models: bleed the fuel line to the parking/auxiliary heater metering pump. Refer to FUEL LINE TO METERING PUMP, BLEEDING .
