Adjustable Steering Column And Steering Column Tube: Installing
Before installing, assemble new steering column with Teflon®, rubber bushings and spacers. Before reinstalling a steering column that has been removed, install installation sleeve -A- on corrugated tube -B- and slide into steering column -C- to stop. Only remove installation sleeves after installing the steering column.
-- Slide steering column tube -A- into position onto steering column -B- so that dimension -C- is approx. 20 mm (0.79 in.).
-- Carefully install steering column with steering column tube into instrument panel from above.
-- Install steering lock housing in steering column tube
-- Install Torx® screw.
-- Install connector housing on ignition switch.
-- Install steering column tube in bracket.
-- Install screws in bracket and steering column tube and tighten nuts by hand.
-- Insert ignition key in steering column lock.
-- Unlock steering lock so steering column can be turned as desired.
If, during installation, the steering column cannot be fastened on the universal joint, loosen the clamping bolt and slide the universal joint on the steering pinion in such a way that the steering column can be installed without tension.
-- Mount universal joint on steering column.
-- Align steering column tube upward or downward by sliding in bracket so lock cylinder of steering wheel lock is concentric to hole in instrument panel.
-- Fasten steering column tube to bracket.
-- Remove installation sleeve.
-- Install instrument cluster.
-- Install trim for instrument cluster.
-- Install boot in instrument panel.
-- Install steering column switch with lower part of trim and connect harness connector.
-- Fasten wiring harness with clamps on left and right (connect right ground wire also).
-- Install upper part of steering column switch trim.
Before installing the upper part of the steering column switch, clip harness connector for airbag unit at location provided on boot.
-- Install steering wheel.
-- Install lever for length adjustment and secure with pin.
-- Install lever for tilt adjustment and fasten with hex socket bolt.
-- Check tilt and length adjustments, and adjust cable if necessary STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CABLE, ADJUSTING .
-- Connect battery ground strap.
-- Check steering column switch for function.
-- Install left footwell air duct.
-- Install cover under instrument panel.
With wheels straight ahead, steering wheel spoke must be horizontal.
