Steering Column Adjustment Cable, Adjusting

Adjustment is shown with steering column removed.
To adjust gap -A-, lock steering column.
-- Remove driver's side storage shelf under instrument panel.
-- Loosen lock nut -2-
-- Turn adjusting screw -1- out of or into adjusting element -3- until adjusting element has a play of approx. 2 mm (0.08 in.) in gap -A-.
-- Check length adjustment, by swinging length adjustment lever - 3- down and pushing steering column -5- back and forth in steering column tube -4-.
-- If steering column -5- hangs up in steering column tube -4-, correct adjustment by turning adjusting screw -1- ; decrease gap -A- slightly (illustration 48-934) until steering column moves freely in steering column tube.
-- Lock adjusting screw -1- with lock nut -2-.
-- Install driver's side storage shelf under instrument panel.

Cable adjustment is shown with steering column removed.
Lock steering column to set the gap -A-.
-- Remove driver side storage shelf under instrument panel .
-- Pull cable -1- in direction of arrow enough so locking mechanism -3- does not move.
-- Check that gap -A- = 3 - 3.5 mm (0.12-0.138 in.); adjust if necessary.
-- Check fore/aft adjustment by swinging lever -1- down and pushing steering column -4- back and forth in steering column tube -3-
-- If steering column sticks, correct by turning adjusting nut -2-, decrease gap -A- slightly (→ illustration A48-0035) until proper clearance of steering column in column tube is achieved
-- Lock adjusting nut with sealing paint to prevent it from turning
-- Install driver side lower storage shelf.
