Front Axle Camber, Adjusting

Procedure

Camber cannot be adjusted.

The camber can only be centered evenly within the tolerance range by sliding the subframe.

It is only permissible to slide the subframe to the left or right. Under no circumstances slide it in or against the direction of travel!

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

CAUTION:

Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.

- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.

- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.

-- Remove and replace the bolts -1, 2, 3 and 4- one after the other and install the bolts by hand all the way.

-- Slide the subframe -5- to the side until the camber is even on both sides. Refer to AXLE ALIGNMENT SPECIFIED VALUES, FRONT AXLE .

-- Tighten the subframe bolts -1, 2, 3 and 4-.

After sliding the subframe and steering gear along with it as well, clearance between universal joint of the steering column and the cutout of plenum chamber bulkhead must be checked.

LHD Vehicles:

-- Remove the buttons -arrows-.

-- Free up the carpet in the area of the universal joint and push it slightly rearward.

RHD Vehicles:

-- Remove the footrest. Refer to FOOTREST, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

There must be at least 5 mm of free space all around between the universal joint -1- and the cutout of the plenum chamber bulkhead -2- (example illustration).
