Turbocharger, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .
- Before testing or performing a repair, check all air guide pipes and hoses and all vacuum lines for leaks and secure seating.
Depending on the model preliminary work may be required. Refer to the appropriate service information .
-- Remove the right front wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Remove the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
-- If installed: loosen the hose clamp -2- and remove the air duct hose.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 3-.
-- Loosen the hose clamps -arrows- and remove the air duct pipe.
-- Remove the drive axle heat shield. Refer to DRIVE AXLE HEAT SHIELD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Place a cloth underneath to catch any escaping coolant and engine oil.
-- Remove the bolts and remove the lines from the cylinder block.
- For the oil return
- For the coolant pipe
- For the Oil Supply
TIP:
The oil return -1- can also be detached from the turbocharger.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set :VAS 6122 .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to AIR FILTER HOUSING, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Loosen the hose clamps -1 and 2- and remove the coolant hoses.
-- Loosen the hose clamp -1-.
-- Press the release buttons on both sides and disconnect the hose -3- for the crankcase ventilation on the air duct pipe.
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- and the air duct pipe.
Equipped on some models:
-- Disconnect the connector -2-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, remove the connection -1-.
Rest of World market version:
-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows- and free up the wires.
-- Remove the bolts and nuts -2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8-.
-- Press the bracket -1- to the side and free up the connection -5-.
-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the vacuum lines -1 and 3- and remove.
-- Remove the bolts -4- and the intake tube.
Market-Specific for North America:
-- Remove the bolts -4- and then remove the Venturi injector.
-- Remove the bolt -3- and disconnect the vacuum lines -1 and 5- and remove.
-- Remove the bolts -2- and the intake tube.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows- for the cam actuator and move the wiring harness to side.
Heat shield, version 1:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
Heat shield, version 2:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the heat shield -1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and bracket -1- for the heat shield.
TIP
Open the bolts using the Bit Torx :T10573 and a small ratchet.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Remove the Oxygen Sensor 1 before Catalytic Converter -GX10-. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and -2- and remove the heat shield -1- for the bevel box.
TIP:
Push the heat shield slightly to the side in order to remove the bolt -2- from above.
-- Loosen the screw-type clamp -3- and remove from the flange.
-- Tie up the catalytic converter -2- toward the rear.
-- Remove the nuts in a -6 to 1- sequence and then move the turbocharger to the side.
-- Remove the bolts and remove the lines from the turbocharger.
- For the coolant pipe

-- Remove the turbocharger.
-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the Engine Bung Set :VAS 6122 .
