Characteristics of the bevel box. Refer to BEVEL BOX IDENTIFICATION .
- Left Seal
- Replacing. Refer to LEFT SEAL, REPLACING .
- Bevel Box
- Removing and Installing. Refer to BEVEL BOX .
- Fluid Drain Plug
- 15 Nm
- Always replace.
- With permanent seal
- Right Seal
- Replacing. Refer to RIGHT SEAL, REPLACING .
- Fluid Filler Plug
- 15 Nm
- Always replace.
- With permanent seal
- Bleed Pipe
- For bleeding the bevel box
- The component is not a replacement part
- Cap
- For bleeding the bevel box
- Right Flange Shaft
- Removing and Installing. Refer to RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH AWD .
- Seal
- Replace
- Insert into the surrounding right flange shaft groove
- To replace, remove the needle bearing (polygon bearing)
- Needle Bearing (Polygon Bearing)
- If it is difficult to move when the flange shaft is removed, this is not an indication of a malfunction.
- Acoustic test only when installed
- Check for damage, for example for cracks on the bearing outer race
- Replacing. Refer to RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING .
- Circlip
- Replace
- Nut
- 480 Nm
- Install with Locking Fluid:D 000 600 .
- Replace
- Bevel Box Output Flange
- Output Flange Cap
- Locked with the output flange
- Replace if damaged
- Shim
- The component is not a replacement part
- Output Flange Seal
- Replacing. Refer to OUTPUT FLANGE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 0FV .
- Tapered Bearing Inner Race
- The component is not a replacement part
- Bolt
- 25 Nm
- Some bolts are double bolts for securing the right drive axle heat shield
- Pinion Housing
- With shaft bevel gear and outer race for tapered roller bearing
- Components are not replacement parts
- Carefully pry out from side to side
- Note the fastening holes; the pinion housing fits only in one position
- O-Ring
- To replace, remove the bolts OVERVIEW - BEVEL BOX COMPONENTS, 0FV and carefully pry the pinion housing out at the tabs protruding all the way around.
- Shim
- The component is not a replacement part
- Note the bevel box fastening holes; the shim only fits in one position
- Cap
- Drive in all the way with the Holding Fixture - Spacers:VW 540/1 B .
