Overview - Drive Axle, With Inner CV Joint Without Cover

1. Outer CV Joint
   • Only replace completely
   • Removing. Refer to to the illustration below.
   • Installing. Refer to the illustration below.
   • Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
2. Bolt
   • Replace after removing
   • Loosening and tightening. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING 
   • Clean the threads in the CV joint with a thread tap before installing.
3. Right Drive Axle
4. Clamp
   • Replace after removing
   • Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, TENSIONING LOCK WASHER .
5. Outer CV Joint CV Boot
   • Check for tears and scuffing
6. Clamp
   • Replace after removing
   • Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, TENSIONING LOCK WASHER .
7. Plate Spring
   • Allocation. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
   • Installation position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, OUTER CV JOINT, ALL .
8. Thrust Ring
   • Allocation. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
   • Installation position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, OUTER CV JOINT, ALL .
9. Circlip
   • Replace after removing
   • Insert in shaft groove
10. Inner CV Joint CV Boot
    • Without vent hole
    • Check for tears and scuffing
    • Drive off CV joint using a drift
    • Before assembling the CV joint coat the sealing surface using Grease. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA) for the allocation.
11. Clamp
    • Replace after removing
    • Tensioning. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, TENSIONING LOCK WASHER .
12. Left Drive Axle
13. Backing Plate
14. Bolt
    • Tightening Specifications
      • Pre-tightening: 10 Nm diagonally
      • M8X48 final tightening specification 40 Nm diagonally
      • M10X52 final tightening specification 70 Nm diagonally
    • Replace after removing
15. Circlip
    • Replace after removing
    • Removing and installing with Circlip Pliers:VW161A 
16. Seal
    • The adhesive surface on CV joint must not have any grease or oil on it.
17. Inner CV Joint
    • Only replace completely
    • Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, INNER CV JOINT WITHOUT COVER .
    • Installing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, INNER CV JOINT WITHOUT COVER .
    • Check using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
18. Plate Spring
    • Installation position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING, INNER CV JOINT WITHOUT COVER => Installation position of the plate spring -1- on inner joint. .

Grease Quantity and Type

• Grease joint again when replacing CV boot.
• Pay attention to the grease type for the outer and inner joint. Refer to the => Electronic Parts Information (ETKA).
