SUBFRAME CROSSBRACE, Lowering
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm: VAG1331
- Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931
- Strut: T40335
Strut: T40335 , Preparing
- Noise insulation removed. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Measure the diameter of the hole in the subframe.
a - 17.6 mm
b - 15.6 mm
-- If necessary, loosen the set screw -1-.
-- Insert the Pin : T40335/1 on the correct side in the Strut: T40335 .
-- Tighten the set screw again.
Procedure
- During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.
-- If not removed, remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
-- Free up the wires on the crossbrace.
-- If not installed yet, loosen the rear of the left and right front wheel housing liners. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Loosen the left and right center underbody trim panels in the front area and lower them slightly. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
-- Remove the left and right front wheel spoiler. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .
-- Remove the nut -2- and bolt -3- and free up the right coolant pipe on the subframe.
-- Remove the left and right bolts -arrow- for the subframe shield.
-- Insert the : T40335 on the left and right side into the subframe. If required, adjust the support brace at the knurled handle -1-.
-- Secure the support brace with securing pins -arrows-.
-- Versions with 3.0L TDI engine: remove the nuts -arrows- and free up the Transmission Fluid Cooling Valve - N509-.
-- If required, free up the wiring harness and the SCR delivery line.
-- Remove the end panel bolts -arrows-.
-- Bring the : VAS6931 into contact with the crossbrace.
Improper handling increases the risk of damaging the threads in the vehicle body.
- Never use an impact wrench to loosen or tighten.
- Position the bolts by hand only and screw in the first threads.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, lower the subframe crossbrace -1- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 .
There is a risk of damaging the components by handling them incorrectly.
If the assembly mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace is incorrectly installed, then resting the vehicle on its wheels can damage components.
- Never place the vehicle with loosened suspension components on its wheels.
- Never support the vehicle with loosened suspension components on the subframe or crossbrace.
- If the vehicle must be moved, install the crossbrace for the subframe and tighten the old bolts to the tightening specification without an additional turn.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:
-- Bring the crossbrace into the installation position and tighten. Refer to Figure.
