Overview - VALVETRAIN, Engine With Two Camshaft Adjusters

  1. Exhaust Valve
  2. Cylinder Head
    • Do not rework the upper sealing surface
    • Only replace the cylinder head and cylinder head cover together
  3. Valve Stem Seal
  4. Valve Spring
  5. Valve Spring Retainer
  6. Valve Retainers
  7. Hydraulic Lifter
    • Do not interchange
    • Lubricate the contact surface
  8. Clip
    • For hydraulic lifter
  9. Roller Rocker Lever
    • Mark the installed position for reinstallation.
    • Check the roller bearing for ease of movement
    • Lubricate the running surfaces before installing
    • Removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
  10. Exhaust Camshaft
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Check the radial clearance using Plastigauge® (roller rocker lever removed)
    • Radial clearance: 0.024 to 0.066 mm
    • Run-out: maximum 0.04 mm
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation 
  11. Spring
    • No replacement part
  12. Ball
  13. Cylinder Head Cover
    • With integrated camshaft bearings
    • Clean the sealing surface, reworking is not permitted.
    • Remove old sealant residue.
    • Removing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Only replace the cylinder head and cylinder head cover together
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation 
  14. Bolt
    • Tightening sequence. Refer to Fig 3.
    • Always replace after removing
    • Loosening. Refer to Fig 2.
  15. Intake Camshaft
    • Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
    • Check the radial clearance using Plastigauge® (roller rocker lever removed)
    • Radial clearance: 0.024 to 0.066 mm
    • Run-out: maximum 0.04 mm
    • Perform the adaptation after removing or replacing using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester 01 - Engine electronics, functions  , 01 - Chain length diagnostic adaptation

Loosening the Cylinder Head Cover

-- Loosen the cylinder head cover in the sequence -1 through 6-.

-- Tighten the bolts in the steps shown in the sequence:

Step Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1 to 6- Install all the way in multiple steps by hand
2. -1 to 6- 8 Nm
3. -1 to 6- 90° additional turn

  1. Cylinder Head
    • Do not rework the upper sealing surface
    • Only replace the cylinder head and cylinder head cover together
  2. O-Ring
    • Check for damage
    • Not available separately, included in the delivery package -item  ) Cam Adjustment Actuator
    • Coat with engine oil
  3. Cam Adjustment Actuator
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 1 -F366-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 2 -F367-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 3 -F368-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 4 -F369-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 5 -F370-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 6 -F371-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 7 -F372-
    • Cam Adjustment Actuator 8 -F373-
  4. Bolt
    • 5 Nm
  5. Ball Pin
    • 9 Nm
    • For the engine cover
  6. O-Ring
    • Replace if damaged
    • Coat with engine oil
  7. Plugs
