Drive Axle, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Loosen the connection between the drive axle and wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .
-- Remove the rear wheel. Refer to WHEELS AND TIRES .
-- Remove the wind deflector from the transverse link. Refer to WIND DEFLECTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Left Side of Vehicle:
-- Remove the muffler. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER [DLHB] / OVERVIEW - MUFFLER [DLZA, DKMB] / OVERVIEW - MUFFLER [DPAA] .
-- If installed, remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the drive axle heat shield -1-.
-- Final drive 0D3 "quattro sport" : remove the bolts -arrows-, and remove the drive axle heat shield -A- from the rear final drive.
Continuation for Both Sides:
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Turn the wheel hub, until a wheel bolt hole is at the top.
-- Install the :T10149 with a wheel bolt -2- on the wheel hub.
-- Raise the wheel bearing housing slightly using the : T10149 with the : VAS6931 until the drive axle can be guided toward the back or the front and then down out of the flange shaft.
-- Carefully remove the drive axle while being careful of the boot.
- Be careful not to damage the protective coating on the drive axle.
There is a risk of an accident when lowering or lifting the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.
- Never lift or lower the vehicle when the engine and gearbox jack is underneath it.
- Never leave the engine and gearbox jack under the vehicle any longer than necessary.
