SUBFRAME CROSSBRACE, Removing And Installing: Removing

NOTE:

During installation, all cable ties must be installed at the same location.

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the left and right nuts -arrows- for the subframe shield.

-- Equipment versions with SCR system: free up the SCR delivery line -1- with the bracket -2- at the crossbrace.

-- Free up the wires on the crossbrace.

-- To protect the threads, remove the nut -arrow- on the left and right from the guide link joint pin just until it is flush with the joint pin threads.

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury from falling components.

  • When pressing off, the ball joint loosens abruptly from the wheel bearing housing.
CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the ball joint puller.

  • Make sure that both puller lever arms are parallel to each other when using maximum force.

-- Remove the guide link joint pin from the conical seat using the Ball Joint Splitter:VAS 251 809  and Fork:VAS 251 809/1  . Do not damage the CV boot while doing this.

-- Remove the nut by counterholding at the ball joint with a TX40 socket if necessary.

-- Free up the guide link on the wheel bearing housing.

-- If required, free up the wiring harness and the SCR delivery line.

-- Bring the prepared Rear Axle Support:T10552  with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931  to rest on the crossbrace.

-- Secure the crossbrace with the mount tensioning strap -arrow-.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the threads on the subframe/crossbrace threaded connection to the body.

  • The subframe/crossbrace bolts on the body must not be loosened or tightened with an impact wrench.
  • Always install all bolts by hand for the first few turns.

-- Remove the wheel spoiler. Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT WHEEL HOUSING LINER .

-- Remove the lower longitudinal member. Refer to OVERVIEW - LOCK CARRIER .

-- Insert the Support Brace Strut:T40335  on the left and right side into the subframe. If necessary, adjust the brace at the knurled handle.

-- Secure the brace on the left and right side using a cotter pin -arrow-.

-- If installed, remove the bolts -arrows- from the end panel.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, lower the subframe crossbrace -1- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931  and remove it.

CAUTION:

There is a risk of damaging the suspension components.

  • If the assembly mount, steering gear or subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly, do not rest the vehicle on its wheels.
  • Supporting the vehicle at the subframe or the subframe crossbrace (for example, using a floor jack or similar device) is not permitted.
