Wheel Bearing Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Loosen the connection between the drive axle and wheel hub. Refer to DRIVE AXLE THREADED CONNECTION, LOOSENING AND TIGHTENING .

-- Remove the brake rotor. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (4M) , BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING (4MN) .

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the wheel bearing housing by deforming it.

- Do not widen the slots in the wheel bearing housing.

-- Disconnect the threaded connection -1-.

-- Remove the joint pins in the upper control arm -2- from the wheel bearing housing.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the wheel hub -2- with the wheel bearing unit from the drive axle -3- and remove it from the wheel bearing housing -1-.

CAUTION:

Contamination increases the risk of destroying the wheel bearing.

- Protect the contact surfaces on the wheel bearing from dirt.

The wheel bearing -2- must always face up in order to remove the wheel bearing unit.

Always set the wheel bearing unit down on the wheel hub -1-.
Never reach inside when lifting the wheel bearing.

Hold the wheel bearing only on the outside.
