Brake Pads, Removing And Installing, RSQ8: Installing

Installation in reverse order of removal and note the following:

TIP:

Always replace self-locking bolts.
Replace damaged bolts.
Clean bolts before reusing.

When changing the brake pad, check the brake rotor for wear and damage.

Brake rotor wear limit. Refer to TECHNICAL DATA, BRAKES .

Always replace brake pads on both sides of the axle.
Replacing the brake pad wear indicator wire.
Use the complete repair kit when installing new brake pads.

CAUTION:

Health risk due to toxic dust from the brake system.

Irreversible deposit of dust particles in the lungs. Breathing impairments may occur.

- Never blow out the brake system with compressed air.

Use only mineral spirits to clean the brake caliper.
Check the protective caps of the brake caliper pistons for damage and install the complete repair kit, if necessary. Refer to BRAKE PISTON, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

When the brake pads are being replaced, additionally replace the brake pad spring -1 and 2-.

The brake pad springs -1 and 2- must be completely engaged in the brake caliper.
Pay attention to the installation position of the brake pad springs -1 and 2-.

-- Clean the brake caliper at the contact surfaces -arrows- for the brake pad retaining plates. Coat the contact surfaces thin with Grease.

-- Install the brake pad retaining plates.

If reusing the brake pads check the brake pad spring and the brake pad retaining plate for damage, if necessary replace.
Do not change the shape of the brake pad spring and brake pad retaining plate.

TIP:

Grease the guides with Grease.
Do "not" coat the rubber components, seals and adhesive surfaces for the brake pad backing plate with grease or paste.

-- Insert the brake pads one after the other into the brake caliper by pressing each brake pad against the brake pad springs and pushing them all the way onto the brake pad retaining plates.

Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly.
Make sure the brake hose is not pinched, bent, twisted or rubbing against the vehicle.

-- Install the brake pad wear indicator wire. Refer to BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RSQ8 .

-- Install the brake caliper. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RSQ8 .

CAUTION:

Faulty brakes increase the risk of an accident.

- Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.

-- With the vehicle stationary, firmly press the brake pedal several times so that the brake pads in the operating condition properly sit in their respective position.

-- Check brake fluid level, and fill if necessary.
