Transmission Fluid Level, Checking: Procedure

NOTE:

Follow the rules for clean working conditions. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Follow all disposal regulations for transmission fluids. Refer to GENERAL REPAIR INFORMATION .

WARNING:

Danger of personal injury. 

  • The coolant fan can come on by itself, even when the ignition is turned off, for example, caused by heat build-up inside the engine compartment.
  • Wear protective eyewear.
  • Wear acid-resistant safety gloves.
CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission. 

  • Do not start the engine if there is little or no oil in the transmission due to repair work or severe loss of transmission fluid.
  • In this case, fill first with S tronic transmission fluid.

Test Conditions 

Read the Transmission Oil Temperature: 

NOTE:

The gear oil level changes with the gear oil temperature. Gear oil temperature that is too low leads to overfilling, too high a temperature leads to underfilling.

Overfilling or underfilling will influence the function of the transmission.
