Transmission, Installing: Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2017 Audi S3, 2017 Audi A3 Quattro, 2016 Audi S3, 2016 Audi A3 Quattro, and 2016 Audi A3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE:

Replace the bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

Replace the self-locking nuts and bolts, sealing rings, seals and O-rings.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to the parts information.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

-- Mount the transmission on the :3282 and secure it.

-- Clean input shaft splines and clean hub, remove corrosion and apply only a very thin coating of lubricant. Refer to the parts information. Remove any excess grease.

-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.

-- Check the needle bearing in the crankshaft. If necessary replace. Refer to CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING [For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC]CRANKSHAFT NEEDLE BEARING, REPLACING [For engine(s) CRUA, DEJA] .

NOTE:

If the needle in the crankshaft is damaged, the gears will no longer shift correctly because the clutch is supported in this bearing.

-- Carefully raise the transmission with the :VAG1383A and bring it into the installation position using the :3282 .

-- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.

-- Attach transmission to engine.

NOTE:

The bolt -3- is only accessible through the opening for the removed starter

-- Adjust the suspension mount. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNTS .

-- Remove the :3282 from the transmission.

-- Remove the :10-222A from the engine.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging sealing ring -arrow - in driveshaft flange.

Press engine/transmission assembly toward bulkhead while carefully guiding bevel box pins into driveshaft flange.

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to the repair information. Refer to appropriate service information. .

-- Tighten the bevel box bracket bolts. Refer to OVERVIEW - BEVEL BOX .

All Vehicles

-- Install the subframe. Refer to SUBFRAME .

-- Install the engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER [For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC] , ENGINE COVER [For engine(s) CRUA, DEJA] .

-- Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to BULKHEAD .

-- Fill the engine coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING [For engine(s) CNSB, CNTC] .
