DTC P0A78-306: Drive Motor "A" Inverter Performance [08/2013 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0A78-306 only is output, or DTCs except the ones in the table below are also output. A
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. B

      HINT: 

      • *1: If any INF codes are output for this DTC, refer to the corresponding diagnostic procedure.
      • P0A78-306 may be stored due to a malfunction which also causes DTCs in the preceding table to be stored. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the preceding table. Then, perform a test to attempt to reproduce the problems, and check that no DTCs are output.
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   11 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Any of the following DTCs are also output. A
      P0A78-306 only is output, or DTCs except the ones in the table below are also output. B

      P0A7A-344 Generator Inverter Performance
      P0A92-261, 521 Hybrid Generator Performance

      HINT: 

      When the DTCs listed in the preceding table are also output, there may be a short between the HSDN (MG shut down signal) circuit and power circuit.

    5. Turn the power switch off.

    B → See step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY (MOTOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION) See step   10 

    B → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    C → CONNECT SECURELY 

    A: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (MG2) See step   12 

    NG → See step   7 

    OK → See step   13 

  7. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (MOTOR CABLE CONNECTION CONDITION) See step   28 

    B → REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS 

    C → CONNECT SECURELY 

    A: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK MOTOR CABLE See step   29 

    NG → See step   14 

    OK → See step   12 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 5 

    NG → See step   13 

    OK → See step   15 

  11. GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2013 - ] 
  12. REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ] 
  13. REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ] 
  14. REPLACE MOTOR CABLE. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ] 
  15. REPLACE POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU. Refer to  COMPONENTS [08/2013 - ]
