Instrument Panel CROSSMEMBER, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the windshield wiper motor. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR -V-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolt -1- for the brace and crossmember from the plenum chamber bulkhead.
-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR ROUTING AND AIR DISTRIBUTION IN VEHICLE INTERIOR .
-- Remove the bracket for the vehicle electrical system control module from the instrument panel crossmember and free up. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - RELAY PANELS, FUSE PANELS AND E-BOXES .
-- Remove the left and right A-pillar fuse panel from the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - RELAY PANELS, FUSE PANELS AND E-BOXES .
-- Remove the Access/Start Authorization Control Module -J518-. Refer to ACCESS/START AUTHORIZATION CONTROL MODULE -J518-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the Climatronic Control Module - J255-. Refer to OVERVIEW - COMPONENTS IN FRONT VEHICLE INTERIOR .
-- Remove the A-pillar lower trim panel. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, TT COUPE .
-- TT Roadster: remove the support rod. Refer to SUPPORT ROD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, TT ROADSTER .
-- Market-specific for North America: remove the driver side knee airbag. Refer to DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG WITH IGNITER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Unclip the air duct -2- and remove it upward.
Replace damaged or faulty foam seals -1-.
-- Push aside the carpet in the area of the threaded connection, remove the nut -1- and free up the ground wires.
-- Disconnect the cable tie, unclip the wires on the instrument panel crossmember and free them up.
Mark the height and side position on the instrument panel crossmember for reinstallation.
-- TT Roadster: remove the bolt -2- for the instrument panel crossmember securing bracket.
-- Remove the left and right bolt -3- for the instrument panel crossmember supports.
-- Remove the steering column from the instrument panel crossmember and lay it on the floor of the vehicle. Refer to STEERING COLUMN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the crash bolster. Refer to CRASH BOLSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the A/C unit bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the bolt -1- for the instrument panel crossmember.
-- Remove the nut -2- for the instrument panel crossmember from the A-pillar on the front passenger side and driver side.
-- Unclip the wires from the instrument panel crossmember, disengage and free them up.
Two technicians are needed to remove the instrument panel crossmember.
-- Carefully pivot the instrument panel crossmember on the upper side rearward and remove from the vehicle interior.
