Side Airbag Wire, Removing And Installing: Removing
- Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS .
- Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to ADDITIONAL SIDE AIRBAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
- Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER AND BATTERY CUT-OUT UNITS, STORING, TRANSPORTING AND DISPOSING (PYROTECHNIC COMPONENTS) .
-- Remove the front seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Fasten the front seat on the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture: VAS6136 . Refer to FRONT SEAT, MOUNTING ON FIXTURE FOR SEAT REPAIR .
Sport Seat:
-- Remove the seat side trim on side sill side. Refer to SEAT SIDE TRIM ON SIDE SILL SIDE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the backrest cover. Refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SPORT SEAT .
-- Detach the side molding -1- from the backrest frame.
-- Detach the top molding -2- from the backrest frame.
-- Remove the cushion from the backrest in the area of the side airbag.
Super Sport Seat:
-- Remove the backrest cover and side sill side trim. Refer to BACKREST COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, SUPER-SPORT SEAT .
Risk of eye injury.
- Wear protective eyewear!
-- Drill out the rivets -3-.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.
The inner threaded plate in the backrest frame may loosen and fall out when removing the screw -1-.
-- Remove the guide plate -4-.
Continuation for All Seat Versions:
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker pin, for example.
-- Release the connector lock -2- with a small screwdriver in direction of -arrow-.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the side airbag igniter.
-- Unclip and free up the side airbag wire on the backrest frame.
-- Remove the rear bracket for the wire routing from the seat pan with a screwdriver.
-- Separate the cable holder -2 and 5- and cable tie -3 and 4-.
-- Remove the side airbag from the protective cover -1- and free up from the seat pan.
-- Carefully remove the side airbag wire from the backrest frame.
