Pistons, Removing And Installing: Removing

• The engine is removed and secured to the Engine/Transmission Holder. Refer to ENGINE, SECURING TO ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOLDER .

-- Remove the cylinder head. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the oil pan upper section. Refer to OIL PAN UPPER SECTION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Mark the installation position and allocation:

• Pistons to cylinder
• Connecting rod to cylinder -item  4

-- Remove the connecting rod bearing cap and remove the piston and connecting rod upward.

-- Remove the circlip -2- from the piston pin eye.

-- Remove the piston pin -3- using the :VW222A  .

TIP:

If difficult to move, heat the pistons to approximately 60 °C (140 °F).

-- Remove the pistons -1- from the connecting rod -4-.
