Rear Final Drive, Removing And Installing, AUDI A1 QUATTRO: Removing
-- Strap in the vehicle on both sides at the vehicle hoist support arms with the Tensioning Strap: T10038 .
- Tensioning Strap: T10038
If the vehicle is not secured, there is the risk that it could slip from the hoist.
-- Remove the tunnel crossmember. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
There is a risk of causing damage to the decoupling element
- Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
- Do not load the decoupling element.
- Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.
-- Disconnect the exhaust system from the clamping sleeve -arrows- and tie up the front exhaust pipe.
-- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 01.2018), OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As Of 12.2017), or OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 09.2016) .
-- Remove the stabilizer bar -arrow- from the rear axle. Refer to Stabilizer Bar, Removing And Installing .
-- Loosen, but do not remove, the driveshaft center bearing bolts -arrows-.
-- If necessary, loosen the heat shield -2- from the body, so that the center bearing driveshaft at the body can be moved.
-- Make sure there is a marking (a color dot) on the flexible disc/the driveshaft flange on the rear final drive -arrows-.
-- If the marking is not there, then mark the position of the flexible disc/driveshaft to the driveshaft flange on the rear final drive.
-- To loosen the driveshaft bolts, counterhold with the : T10172A and the : T10172/5 on the rear final drive.
-- Remove the driveshaft bolts -arrows- on the rear final drive.
-- Remove the driveshaft from the centering pins at the rear final drive. Press the driveshaft slightly forward when doing this. Therefore remove the bolts from the center bearing/driveshaft if necessary.
Risk of damaging the sealing ring -arrow- in driveshaft flange.
- Remove the driveshaft horizontally from the centering pins.
-- Then tie up the rear area of the driveshaft -A- with for example a wire -B- to the side of the body.
Loosen the bolt -arrow- two turns from the front bonded rubber bushing before the rear axle and the rear final drive are removed.
This bolt can be loosened using Multipoint Socket: T10035 , Socket - Xzn 14: T10061 or Bits for V.A.G. 1331/13: T10099/1 .
-- Remove the entire rear axle with the rear final drive while securing the subframe. Refer to Overview - Drive Axle and Drive Axle, Removing And Installing .
-- Secure the Retaining Straps : T40155 -3- to the subframe -1- as shown in the illustration, and not to the rear final drive -2-.
-- Lift the rear axle using the Shop Crane: VAS6100 .
-- Place a suitable wood block -A- on the Universal Transmission Support: VAG1359/2 and support the final drive with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS6931 .
-- Secure the rear final drive from falling with the strap for the Universal Transmission Support.
-- Remove the bolt -B- and remove the washer -C- to unscrew the final drive from >>underneath<<.
-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the All Wheel Drive Control Module -J492-.
-- Remove the bleeder hoses -1 and 2- from the subframe.
-- Remove the driveshafts -2- from the rear final drive and tie them to the subframe.
-- Remove the rear final drive bolts -3- from the subframe.
These bolts can be loosened using Multipoint Socket: T10035 , Socket - Xzn 14: T10061 or Bits for V.A.G. 1331/13: T10099/1 .
-- Tilt the final drive at an angle with the : VAS6931 and pull it forward, as shown in the illustration.
-- Lower the final drive, ensuring there is enough clearance to the other components.
