Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Remove the affected ignition coils, refer to IGNITION COILS WITH POWER OUTPUT STAGES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the affected high pressure pump, refer to HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the affected high pressure line, refer to HIGH PRESSURE PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the affected camshaft timing chain from camshafts, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- Remove the noise insulation -arrow-.
-- Remove the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/3.
Risk of damaging valves and piston crowns.
- In the course of the following steps, the crankshaft must not stand with any piston at "TDC".
-- Turn the crankshaft 40° opposite engine rotation out of the "TDC" position using the Wrench - 21mm T40263 and Crankshaft Turning ToolT40272 -arrow-.
Cylinder Bank 1 (Right):
-- Remove the right coolant pipe, refer to RIGHT COOLANT PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and press the fuel line -1- forward.
Do not change the shape of the fuel line.
-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2- and free up the wiring harness.
-- Attach both of the camshaft adjusters without camshaft timing chains to the cylinder head and then loosely screw on the bolts -1, 2-.
-- Position the Wrench - CamshaftT40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the right exhaust camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/1, the exhaust camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the exhaust camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the left bolt -left arrow- from the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/1.
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the exhaust camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Position the Wrench - CamshaftT40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left intake camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/1, the intake camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the intake camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the right bolt -right arrow- from the Camshaft Locating Tool T40264/1.
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the intake camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Remove the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/1.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- by counterholding with the wrench and the Wrench - CamshaftT40269. Remove the camshaft adjuster.
Cylinder Bank 2 (Left):
-- Disconnect the connectors:
3 - for Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-
4 - for Camshaft Adjustment Valve 2 -N208-
-- Move the electrical wiring harness to the side.
Ignore -items 1 and 2-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and move the adjusting element vacuum pipe to the side.
The illustration shows the Installed position on an Audi S6/S7.
Do not remove ball head item -2-.
Ignore item -1-.
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and press the fuel line forward.
Do not change the shape of the fuel line.
-- Attach both of the camshaft adjusters without camshaft timing chains to the cylinder head and then loosely screw on the bolts -1, 2-.
-- Position the Wrench - CamshaftT40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left intake camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/2, the intake camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the intake camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the left bolt -left arrow- from the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/2.
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the intake camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Position the Wrench - CamshaftT40269 onto the camshaft adjuster for the left exhaust camshaft and counterhold with a wrench -2-.
-- Tighten the bolt -1- by hand.
To loosen the bolt for the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/2, the exhaust camshaft must be secured from turning.
-- Hold the exhaust camshaft in position with the wrench.
-- Remove the right bolt -right arrow- from the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/2.
-- Release the wrench.
- When doing this, the exhaust camshaft turns to the right one turn.
-- Remove the Camshaft Locating ToolT40264/2.
-- Remove the bolts -1 and 2- by counterholding with the wrench and the Wrench - CamshaftT40269. Remove the camshaft adjuster.
Continuation for Both Cylinder Banks:
-- Loosen and remove the bolts in the following sequence: -22 to 1-.
The left camshaft housing is shown in the illustration.
Proceed in the same way with right camshaft housing.
-- Screw in the M6x30 bolts evenly into the threaded openings -arrows- to carefully loosen the camshaft housing out of the bonding.
The left camshaft housing is shown in the illustration.
Proceed in the same way with right camshaft housing.
-- Mark the assignment of the camshafts for installation later.
-- Remove the camshafts and place them on a clean surface.
