Camshafts, Removing, Used Camshafts, Reinstalling On Cylinder Bank 2 (Left): Installing
- Secure crankshaft in "TDC" position using Crankshaft Holder 3242.
-- Mount the Camshaft Fitting Tool - T40096 onto the teeth of the intake camshaft so that one arm of the clamping tool engages in one sprocket half.
- The wider arm must engage into the wider half of the sprocket.
-- Tension the tensioning tool with the thumb wheel until the tooth faces align.
-- Lay the camshafts and the camshaft bearings that are tied up with cable ties -arrows- onto the cylinder head.
-- Check the camshaft "TDC" position:
- The intake camshaft -2- must be able to be stopped with the Camshaft Adjustment Pins T40060.
- The bolt -arrow- in the Camshaft Adjustment Pins T40060 must be perpendicular to the center axis of the camshaft.
- The exhaust camshaft -1- must be positioned so that the groove -arrow A- runs parallel above the joint -arrow B- between the thrust bearing and the bearing cap.
-- Check the installed location of the alignment sleeves:
- Both alignment sleeves -arrows- must be inserted into the openings on the thrust bearing "IV".
- The alignment sleeves must engage in the openings in the cylinder head.
-- Install the bolts -1 to 12- in the bearing cap.
-- Install the Locking Device-Locking Pin T40311/1 in the threaded hole -1- at the level of the 5-cylinder, as shown in the illustration.
-- Place the Locking Device T40311 on the mounting bracket for the tensioning claw -arrows-, as shown in the illustration.
-- Tighten the bearing cap bolts, refer to Figure.
-- Remove the Locking Device T40311 and the Locking Device-Locking Pin T40311/1.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
-- Remove the Camshaft Fitting Tool - T40096.
-- Install the camshaft timing chains, refer to Installing .
Risk of damaging valves and piston heads after working on valve train.
- The motor must not be started for about 30 minutes after installing camshafts because the hydraulic equalization elements must seat themselves.
- To ensure valves do not strike pistons when starting, carefully rotate engine at least two full revolutions.
