Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing

NOTE:

Replace the seals and O-rings.

Replace any bolts that were tightened with an additional turn.

CAUTION:

Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing.

  • Cover open parts of engine.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the upper section of the oil pan and the guide frame -1- using a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean any oil or grease off the sealing surfaces.

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the sealing compound.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 1.5 mm).

-- If there are no alignment bushings -arrows- at the locations marked in the cylinder block, insert them.

-- Insert the new seals -3, 4- in the grooves on the guide frame.

-- Secure the seal -5- to the guide frame.

CAUTION:

The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

  • Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

-- Apply sealant beads -1, 2- to the clean sealing surface on the upper section of the oil pan as shown in the illustration.

NOTE: Install the upper section of the oil pan within five minutes of applying the sealant.

-- Position the upper section of the oil pan and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- Install the timing chain cover lower section, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ribbed belt tensioner, refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the coolant pump, refer to COOLANT PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the oil pan lower section, refer to Installing .

-- Install the timing chain cover lower section, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
