Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF), Draining And Filling

Special Tools And Workshop Equipment Required 

• Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500
• Oil Filler VAS 6262 A
• Oil Filler - Jointed Hose VAS 6262/5
• If necessary, Oil Filler - Adapter 6 VAS 6262/6
• Original 1 liter Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) bottle; for the correct part number
• Protective eyewear
• Acid-resistant safety gloves

Draining 

• The engine is off.
• Move the vehicle onto a 4-column workshop hoist or over a work pit so it is completely level.
• Transmission is in "P".
• The parking brake button should be activated to close the electro-mechanical parking brake.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation -2-. Refer to NOISE INSULATION, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit SMN372500 under the transmission.

-- Remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) drain plug -arrow B- and drain the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF).

-- Tighten the new drain plug -arrow B-.

Filling Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

-- Measure the length of the bleed pipe on the Oil Filler VAS 6262 A. Shorten it if necessary, refer to Measure the length of the bleed pipe on the Adapter For Oil Filling VAS 6262 A. Shorten it if necessary. .

-- Secure the fluid container with Oil Filler VAS 6262 A on the vehicle as high as possible.

-- Tighten the new plug -arrow A-.

-- Install the Oil Filler - Jointed Hose VAS 6262/5 into the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) check and fill hole -arrow-.

-- Fill the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) using the adapter until the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

-- Move the selector lever to "P".

-- Start the engine, wait 20 seconds and then turn it off.

-- Fill the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) again until it starts to leak out of the hole.

-- Start the engine.

-- Fill the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) again using the adapter until the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) starts to leak out of the check and fill hole.

-- Tighten the old plug for the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) check and fill hole.

-- While pressing the brake pedal and with the vehicle idling, shift through all the selector lever positions ("P", "R", "N", "D/S") leaving each position engaged for 3 seconds.

-- Move the selector lever to "P".

-- Check the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) level. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) LEVEL, CHECKING .

Tightening Specifications 

• Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - DRAIN AND CHECK PLUGS
• Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .
