Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling: Draining

NOTE:

The S tronic transmission does not have any drain plug for the transmission fluid system. To drain the transmission fluid, the Transmission Electric Pump 2 - V553- (transmission fluid pump) must be removed.

Follow the general repair instructions. Refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

Follow the guidelines for clean working conditions. Refer to GUIDELINES FOR CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS .

Transmission fluid temperature at about 20 °C (68 °F) (room temperature).
Move vehicle onto a four-pillar shop hoist or over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.

-- Remove the rear noise insulation. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Place the :SMN372500 underneath.

CAUTION:

Risk of electrical corrosion.

There must not be any transmission fluid (MTF) in the connector area.
Do NOT disconnect the connector -2-.

NOTE:

When removing the oil pump, the transmission drains abruptly.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the oil pump -1- and secure with wire so that it does not fall.

-- Drain the transmission fluid (MTF).

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the transmission.

Without any or with too little manual transmission fluid (MTF) inside the transmission:

Do not start the engine.
Do not tow the vehicle.

NOTE:

Worn out manual transmission fluid (MTF) can stain the transmission fluid filter housing.

Clean debris from the sealing surfaces.

-- Install the oil pump. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Clean the subframe crossbrace and remove any remaining transmission fluid.
