ATF Strainer: Installing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Audi A5, 2009 Audi A5, and 2008 Audi A5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • The ATF strainer seal -A- normally stays in the transmission.

  • The seal must be removed first to replace the ATF strainer.
  • The same seal can be used again if the old ATF strainer is also being used again.

Note the following when replacing with a new ATF strainer:

NOTE:
  • Replace the ATF strainer only if it is damaged.
  • With high mileage vehicles, replace the ATF strainer when the ATF pan is removed.

-- Carefully remove the ATF strainer seal -A- from the transmission with a screwdriver.

NOTE:
  • Do not damage sealing surface.
  • The illustration shows seal with the Mechatronic unit removed.
  • The new ATF strainer comes with the seal installed.

Continuation for New and Old ATF Strainer: 

-- Carefully press the intake neck on the new ATF strainer -A- into the opening on the transmission as far as the stop.

NOTE:

When replacing with a new ATF strainer, press it into the transmission with the seal already installed.

-- Install the ATF pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

-- Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .
