Selector Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

• Pry Lever 80-200

Procedure 

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and remove the front muffler, refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, NON-HYBRID VEHICLES or FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING HYBRID VEHICLES .

-- Remove the ATF oil pan, refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ATF filter, refer to ATF FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the Mechatronic, refer to MECHATRONIC, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the Pry Lever 80-200.

-- Remove the spring pin -2- on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

-- Remove the selector lever and shaft -arrow-.

-- Pry out the shaft seal using a small screwdriver.

-- Apply ATF to the circumference and the space between the sealing lips of the new shaft seal.

• Installation position: the open side of the seal faces the transmission.

-- Mount the shaft seal on the transmission housing and push it in all the way using a suitable socket -arrow-.

-- Install the selector lever and shaft.

NOTE:

If the actuator rod for the locking latch moves too far to the rear, then it can be pulled forward -arrow 2- while pushing the locking latch at the same time -arrow 1-.

-- Install the spring pin -2- flush on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

-- Install the Mechatronic, refer to MECHATRONIC, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ATF filter, refer to ATF FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ATF pan, refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the front muffler, refer to FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, NON-HYBRID VEHICLES or FRONT MUFFLER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING HYBRID VEHICLES .

-- Fill the ATF, refer to ATF, DRAINING AND FILLING .
