Starter, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With 3.0L TDI Engine: Removing

-- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery ground cable, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Remove the front exhaust pipe, refer to FRONT EXHAUST PIPE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the generator, refer to GENERATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH 3.0L TDI ENGINE .

-- Remove the right engine mount, refer to OVERVIEW - SUBFRAME MOUNT .

Vehicles with engine Generation I :

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -2-.

-- Press the lower right coolant pipe to the side.

NOTE:

Disregard item -3-.

-- Remove the nut -1- and free up the ground cable on the engine support.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the right engine support.

NOTE:

The engine support is illustrated without the heat shield.

-- Disconnect the connector -3- by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down.

-- Remove the terminal 30/B+ wire -2- from the starter.

-- Remove the bolts -1- and -4- and remove the starter.
