Selector Mechanism Overview

WARNING:

There is a risk of injury and accident from accidentally engaging a gear when the engine is running.

  • Before work is done with the engine running, move the selector lever into P and press the parking brake button to engage the electromechanical parking brake.

Before disassembling the selector mechanism, perform check. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, CHECKING .

  1. Selector Lever Handle
  2. Decorative Ring
  3. Selector Lever Boot
  4. Clamp
  5. Selector Lever Transmission Range Position Display -Y26-
  6. Nut
    • 10 Nm
    • Quantity: 4
    • For securing the shift mechanism to the body
  7. Rubber Seal
  8. Selector Lever Sensor System Control Module -J587- with Tiptronic Switch -F189-
  9. Selector Mechanism Function Unit
  10. Shift Lock Solenoid -N110-
  11. Transmission Park Selector Switch -F305-
    • Consists of two microswitches on the circuit board on the shift lock solenoid
    • Can only be replaced together with the shift lock solenoid, refer to SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID -N110- 
  12. Noise Insulation
    • Not on all vehicles;
  13. Lock Washers
    • Quantity: 4
    • Removing and installing
    • For securing the noise insulation to the shift mechanism function unit
  14. Retaining Clip
    • Secures selector lever cable on selector mechanism function unit
  15. O-ring
    • Removing and installing
  16. Selector Lever Cable
    • Do not bend
    • There are different versions depending on the vehicle.
    • Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE OVERVIEW 
    • Lightly lubricate ball socket with polycarbamide grease G 052 142 A2 before installing.
  17. Cover
    • Over the shift lock solenoid
