Overview - Front Brakes, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ And 1LD 1ZT +S4 /S5

NOTE:

Install the entire repair kit.

After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

When siphoning brake fluid, always use a bleeder bottle that is used exclusively for brake fluid. Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!

Check brake caliper for ease of movement by moving it sideways.

Brake Pads
- Illustration of left front with brake wear cable
  NOTE:
  The inner surface (with tension spring) in the left brake caliper is equipped with a cable for wear indicator.
- Always replace on both axles.
- Before inserting the pads, clean the contact surfaces and apply a layer of Polycarbamide Grease G 052 142 A2.
- Refer to BRAKE PADS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Check the brake pad thickness.
- Different versions.
  NOTE:
  Before inserting the brake pads, clean the retaining pin for the brake pads -arrows- and apply a thin layer of grease . When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.
Brake Carrier
- Bolt to wheel bearing housing
- The retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.
Bolt
- 196 Nm
- Brake carrier to wheel bearing housing
- Use new bolts.
Bolt
- 30 Nm
- Tighten the brake caliper to the brake carrier.
Brake Line Connection to the Brake Caliper
- 20 Nm
Bolt
CAUTION:
The 4 bolts must not be loosened under any circumstances.
Brake Caliper Housing
- When doing work, do not allow to hang from brake hose, rather suspend it from the body using bundling wire
- The brake caliper must not be disassembled.
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to BRAKE CALIPER, REPLACING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to OVERVIEW - FRONT BRAKE CALIPER, FBC, 1LA AND 1LJ BRAKE CALIPER
- No other repairs may be made to the brake caliper other than "Brake Pads, Removing and Installing" and "Brake Caliper, Servicing, Front" and removing and installing the guide pins.
- Hose must be installed free of twists
Spring Clamp
- Remove the brake pads before removal
- Insert after installing the brake pads
Brake Pad Retaining Pins
CAUTION:
The four retaining pins for the brake pads on the brake carrier must not be loosened under any circumstances.

NOTE:
Before inserting the brake pads, clean the retaining pin for the brake pads -arrows- and apply a thin layer of grease . When doing this, do not allow any grease to get on the rubber components. Clean the rubber components of grease.
Securing the Brake Pad in the Brake Caliper
Brake Rotor
- Wear limit. Refer to BRAKE PR NUMBERS .
- Always replace on both axles.
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Refer to BRAKE ROTOR, REPLACING, 1LA, 1LB, 1LJ AND 1LD 1ZT + S4 /S5
- Coat the contact surfaces between the brake rotor and wheel hub with Polycarbamide Grease G 052 142 A2.
Brake Pad Bolt
- 5 Nm

NOTE:

Close the bleed screw and tighten to 14 Nm.

NOTE:
