Mounting Bracket, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With Automatic Transmission: Installing

Replace all bolts.

WARNING:

If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp sensor if the brake pedal is released too quickly.

Make sure the wall seal is seated properly before inserting the mounting bracket.

-- Install the mounting bracket into the guides in the vehicle.

-- Install the nuts on the mounting bracket guides and secure it.

-- Install the bolts from the brake booster -1- to the mounting bracket and tighten them.

NOTE:

First tighten the brake booster bolts on the bracket.

-- Tighten the nuts -16- on the mounting bracket guides.

-- Connect the connector to the accelerator pedal module.

Clip the brake pedal to the brake booster.

-- Hold the ball head of pushrod in front of the mount and push the brake pedal in direction of brake booster, so the ball head locates audibly.

WARNING:

If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp sensor if the brake pedal is released too quickly.

-- Install the brake lamp sensor. Refer to BRAKE LAMP SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Push the steering column -1- on the steering shaft -3-.

Use new bolts!

-- Position the steering column on the central tube and insert the new bolts. Refer to STEERING COLUMN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

NOTE:

Pay attention to the different lengths of the bolts. Refer to OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN .

-- Tighten the bolts -1 and 2 - diagonally to 20 Nm. Refer to OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN .

NOTE:

Use a commercially available ratchet with a 3/8" drive and socket and extension to install the bolts.

-- Tighten the bolts -1 and 2- diagonally to 20 Nm using the Torque Wrench 1331 5-50Nm VAG1331 and Torque Wrench 1783 - Reversible Ratchet VAS5122 with an extension.

-- Clip in the gap cover of the upper trim panel for the steering column switch module.

-- Install the cable guides on the steering column.

-- Tighten the bolt on the steering shaft -2-. Refer to OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN .

Use new bolts!

-- Install the lower bolts -1 through 4- for the steering column and mounting bracket and tighten to 20 Nm in a diagonal sequence. Refer to OVERVIEW - STEERING COLUMN .

-- Install the footwell vent -A-.

-- Connect the connector -C- on the footwell vent.

-- Install the driver side instrument panel cover -1 to 3-.

-- Install the cover -2- over the brake fluid reservoir.

The cover -2- is not installed on all vehicle models.

-- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead. Refer to OVERVIEW - BULKHEAD .

-- Install the tower brace. Refer to TOWER BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
