Selector shaft oil seal, replacing with transmission installed

• Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
• Assembly sleeve 01E 311 120 
• Sealing grease G 052 128 A1

Removing 

• If installed, loosen quick release fasteners - 3  - and remove rear sound insulation - B  -.

Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine:

• Remove heat shield for drive shaft (left-side).
• Disconnect exhaust system at clamp (left-side) - left arrow  -.
• Remove front exhaust pipe (left-side) with catalytic converter → 3.0 Liter 6-Cyl. 5V Engine Mechanical, Engine Code(s): AVK - 26 EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS .

Continued for all vehicles: 

• Remove nut - arrow  - and detach selector shaft lever from selector shaft.

• Carefully pry out oil seal, making sure shaft is not damaged.

Installing 

• To avoid damaging oil seal - C  - , oil seal and selector shaft must only be installed using assembly sleeve 01E311120  - A  -.
• Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip half full with sealing grease G052128A1  .
• Lightly oil outer circumference of seal.

• Drive oil seal - arrow  - into housing as far as it will go.

The remaining installation steps are perform in the reverse sequence. Note the following:

Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine:

• Install front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter and align exhaust system so it is free of stress → 3.0 Liter 6-Cyl. 5V Engine Mechanical, Engine Code(s): AVK - 26 EXHAUST SYSTEM, EMISSION CONTROLS .
• Install heat shield for drive axle (left-side).

Continued for all vehicles: 

• Check gear oil level in transmission → Transmission oil level, checking .
