Shift Mechanism Function Unit: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM OVERVIEW .

NOTE:

Lubricate the ball socket on the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease G 052 142 A2 before installing.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, ADJUSTING .

-- Install the heat shield.

-- Install tunnel crossmember. Refer to TUNNEL CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION MOUNT AND TRANSMISSION SUPPORT OVERVIEW .

-- Check the selector mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, CHECKING .

NOTE:

Check the vehicle data label or the designation on the rear final drive itself to determine which one is installed in the vehicle. Then select the correct rear final drive repair information.

-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Install the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to [For engine(s) CCBA] Description and Operation .

-- Install the subframe crossbrace. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the diagonal braces. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the front ashtray. Refer to FRONT ASHTRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Perform "Guided Functions" using the vehicle diagnostic tester after removing and installing the selector mechanism function unit. Refer to TRANSMISSION GUIDED FUNCTIONS .
