Overview - Oil Pan/Oil Pump

NOTE:

If large quantities of metal particles or abraded material are detected during engine repairs, it may mean the crankshaft or rod bearings are damaged. To prevent further damage, perform the following steps after the repair:

Clean the oil channels carefully.

Replace the oil spray jets.

Replace the engine oil cooler.

Replace the oil filter.

The oil level must not Go above the MAX mark - danger of causing damage to the catalytic converter!

Bolt
- 6 Nm
- Attached to the intake manifold
Guide Tube
- For the oil dipstick
- Secured by a bolt to intake manifold
Cylinder Block
- Sealing flanges and flywheel/drive plate, removing and installing. Refer to SEALING FLANGES AND DRIVE PLATE
- Removing and installing the crankshaft. Refer to CRANKSHAFT .
- Piston and connecting rod. Refer to PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD .
O-Ring
- Always replace
- Coat with oil before installing
Oil Pump
- It is necessary to remove the engine first in order to remove the oil pump.
- Oil pump, removing and installing. Refer to OIL PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Chain Sprockets
- For the timing chain
- Removing and installing. Refer to PART I .
- Camshaft adjuster with camshaft timing chain, installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Bolt
- 60 Nm + ¹ /₄ (90°) turn
- Always replace
Bolt
- 8 Nm
- Replace with locking compound
Seal
- Always replace
- Coat with oil before installing
Oil Spray Jet
- For crankshaft bearings 2 through 7
- For piston cooling
- Opening pressure: 2.0 bar (29 psi)
- Removing and installing. Refer to OIL SPRAY NOZZLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING
Seal
- Replace if damaged.
- Coat with oil before installing
Oil Intake Pipe
- Clean the screen if it is dirty.
- 8 Nm
- Replace with locking compound
Oil Pipe
- 8 Nm
- Replace with locking compound
Baffle Plate
Oil Drain Plug
- 30 Nm
- Always replace
- With permanent sealing ring
Oil Pan
- Clean sealing surface before installing
- Insert with Silicone Sealant: D 176 501 A1
- Removing and installing. Refer to OIL PAN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Oil Level Thermal Sensor - G266-
- Checking. Refer to Wiring Diagram or appropriate service information.
- 10 Nm
Oil Pan Bolts
- Oil pan/cylinder block: 12 Nm
- Oil pan/transmission: 45 Nm
- 10 Nm
Left Oil Filter Housing/Engine Support
- Overview - oil filter housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - OIL FILTER HOUSING .
- Coolant hose connection diagram. Refer to COOLANT HOSE CONNECTION DIAGRAM .
- 23 Nm
Oil Pressure Switch
- Checking. Refer to OIL PRESSURE AND OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, CHECKING .
Seal
- Always replace
- Coat with oil before installing
