Starter, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With 4.2L FSI Engine, 265 Kw, Automatic Transmission Ag8: Removing:

NOTE:

All cable ties opened or cut during engine removal must be reinstalled at the same locations during installation.

-- Disconnect The Battery.

-- Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING [For engine(s) CATA] .

-- Remove the right coolant pipe. Refer to COOLANT PIPES, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CATA] .

-- Remove the heat shield from the steering gear -arrows- 10 Nm.

-- Remove the pre-catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CGRA] .

-- Support the engine in its installed position. Refer to ENGINE SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING [For engine(s) CATA] .

-- Remove the right wheel housing liner.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -2- and -3-.

-- Free up wiring harness to the starter at wiring harness bracket -1- by cutting through cable ties.

NOTE:

Release lever is not visible and must be felt with fingers.

-- Disconnect the electrical connector -3- by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down -arrow-.

-- Remove the bolt -1-.

NOTE:

The B+ line can only be removed after disconnecting terminal 50 electrical connector.

-- Remove the nut -2- and disconnect the B+ wire from the solenoid switch.

-- Remove the starter downward.
