Balance Shaft, Removing And Installing, Exhaust Side: Installing

NOTE:

Because of the small clearance between the balance shaft and cylinder block, the balance shaft may need to be cooled in order to install it. Check if the balance shaft can be inserted into the cylinder block without forcing it in. If this is not the case, then the balance shaft must be installed cooled.

-- Check the installation position of the pipe for the balance shaft -arrow-.

The pin -arrow- must engage in the groove.

-- Place the new balance shaft in a freezer for 30 minutes or spray it with commercially available cooling spray.

-- Lubricate the balance shaft bearing with engine oil.

-- Install the new exhaust camshaft balance shaft.

-- Before tightening the bolt -1- make sure the balance shaft lies level on the crankshaft.

NOTE:

If the balance shaft is not level, then the pipe for the balance shaft must be installed again.

Further installation is done in the reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Install the balance shaft drive chain, refer to BALANCE SHAFT DRIVE CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the camshaft timing chain, refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the lower timing chain cover, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REPLACING .

-- Install the upper timing chain cover, refer to UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the radiator and fan shroud:

Non-hybrid vehicles, refer to RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING NON-HYBRID VEHICLES .
Hybrid vehicles, refer to RADIATOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, HYBRID VEHICLES .

Tightening specifications

Refer to OVERVIEW - BALANCE SHAFT
